Why can I see a company I don't recognise in my admin panel?

Spotted a company in your admin panel that you don't recognise? Or someone on your exec team who shouldn't be there? The good news is that this isn't a data breach.

Why this happens

When you create a company account on SeedLegals, you automatically become an admin
for that company. This applies even if the company isn't yours. You might have set it up on
behalf of a founder you were working with, or a startup you were investing in.

Admin access doesn't expire on its own. Unless you remove yourself from the exec team,
you'll stay listed as an admin and the company will keep showing in your admin panel

Who this happens to

We hear about this from founders and investors alike. It usually looks like one of these:

  • You're an investor and can see a company in your admin panel that you backed a while ago, but you're not sure why you're an admin.

  • You're a founder and have spotted someone on your exec team, such as a past investor or adviser, who you didn't expect to see there

In either case, they most likely set up the company account at some point and automatically became an admin when they did.

How to remove yourself as an admin

If you no longer want to be an admin for a company, you can unassign yourself in a few
clicks:

1. Log in to SeedLegals and open the admin panel on the left
2. Select the company you no longer want to be an admin for
3. Go to Settings, then Users & Roles
4. Unassign yourself from the company

Once that's done, the company won't appear in your admin panel any more.

If someone else is an admin on your company

If there's someone on your exec team who shouldn't be there, the simplest fix is to ask
them to remove themselves using the steps above. It only takes them a minute.
