Here's how to check your domain and fix the most common cause. If your investors or the SeedLegals team keep finding your emails in their spam folder, the usual cause is a missing DMARC record on your domain. It's a small fix, but it needs to be made by whoever has access to your domain's DNS settings. ### **What is DMARC?** A domain’s DNS settings are like its internet address book; they tell other systems where to find its website and where to deliver messages sent to addresses using that domain. DMARC is a short line of text in your domain's DNS settings. It tells email providers like Gmail and Outlook what to do with messages that claim to come from your domain. Without it, they can't easily tell your real emails apart from someone pretending to be you; so a lot of them play it safe and send your email to spam. It works alongside two other records called SPF and DKIM. Your email provider usually walks you through those when you set up your domain. DMARC is the one that tends to get missed. ### **How to check your domain** 1. Go to the MXToolbox DMARC lookup: [https://mxtoolbox.com/DMARC.aspx](https://mxtoolbox.com/DMARC.aspx) 2. Enter your domain. That's the part after the @ in your email address, e.g. yourcompany.com has a domain of 'yourcompany' 3. Click DMARC Lookup If it says no DMARC record was found, that's very likely why your emails are being filtered to Spam. For a wider check of your email setup, you can also run your domain through the [**MXToolbox SuperTool**.](https://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx) ### **How to fix it** Send this article to whoever manages your domain. That's usually your IT provider or the person who set the domain up in the first place. After that, run the MXToolbox check again to make sure the record shows up. ### **Still going to spam?** If your DMARC record is in place and emails are still being filtered, check that SPF and DKIM are set up too. MXToolbox will flag problems with those as well.
